Bharatnatyam Recital by Padmashree Geeta Chandran on the eve of the foundation day of Nalanda University.
Khabre TV : 9334598481 : On the occasion of the eve of the foundation day of Nalanda University, SPIC MACAY Chapter of the University organised a classical dance recital by renowned artist Smt. Geeta Chandran who has been awarded with Padma Shri and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Bharatanatyam.
This program was held today at 6 pm in Sushma Swaraj Auditorium of the University. She started the performance with a Pushpanjali where she presented the rhythmic pattern of the dance. This was followed by a Varnam performance where the students of Nalanda were introduced to the nuances of classical dance through a lecture demonstration. The program concluded the program with an elevating presentation of Vande Mataram.
On this occasion, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Abhay Kumar Singh said, "Nalanda, the glorious seat of ancient learning that existed only in our nostalgic memory is manifesting here in all its grandeur today again. We are fortunate to be proud participants in this historic event. Underlining the importance of the programme, Prof. Singh said that Nalanda University is committed towards creating enlightened citizen by providing holistic development of its students in all aspects such as vali based education, cultural, spiritual, and artistic creativity. Such programs provide an opportunity to develop and refine the artistic potential of our students. This program will also help the international students of the university to connect with Indian culture and heritage.
The program was organized under SPIC MACAY Chapter on the occasion of Foundation Day of Nalanda University. Students from 32 countries participated in this program organized by the Spic Mecha chapter of the university.
SPIC MACAY (Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture among Youth) was founded in 1977 by Padma Shri awardee Professor Kiran Seth of IIT Delhi to raise awareness about various aspects of Indian heritage and to provide a holistic educational environment inspiring the youth.
NU chapter of SPIC MACAY has been conducting such programs to inspire students to experience the intangible, subtle and inspirational aspects embedded in the rich cultural heritage of India. On the eve of the foundation day of Nalanda University this event will provide an opportunity to students from different countries to come face to face with the glorious cultural heritage of India.
