#khabre Tv : Rajgir, Nalanda (28 November 2025): Nalanda University hosted the International Conference on “Dharma and Global Ethics: Insights from Bhāratīya Śāstra Paramparā” today, convening eminent scholars, policymakers, spiritual practitioners and academic leaders from India and abroad. The day-long event featured in-depth discussions on Dharma, civilizational wisdom, global ethics, sustainability, and contemporary moral challenges. Bhāratīya Śāstra Paramparā, once peripheral, are now gaining prominence at the heart of scholarship and practical application. At Nalanda, such conferences are vital for exploring and implementing ancient Indian knowledge in contemporary contexts. These time-tested insights, especially regarding nature and sustainability, hold potential to address pressing challenges both in India and globally.
The inaugural ceremony commenced with Nalanda University students chanting the Dhyāna Śloka from the Bhagavad Gita. Prof. Godabarisha Mishra, Dean of SBSPCR and Conference Coordinator, then delivered the Welcome Address.
In the Inaugural Address, Ms. Anju Ranjan, Joint Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, underscored the importance of global interconnectedness, stating that “Civilizational dialogue and shared ethical responsibilities are essential for fostering meaningful cooperation in an interdependent world.”
Delivering the keynote, Prof. Ganti S. Murthy, National Coordinator, Indian Knowledge Systems Division, Ministry of Education, presented a compelling synthesis of Bhāratīya Śāstra Paramparā and modern knowledge frameworks. He highlighted that “Indian intellectual traditions offer a coherent and integrative worldview capable of enriching scientific inquiry and ethical leadership today.”
Padma Shri Prof. Chirapat Prapandvidya, Thailand’s leading Sanskrit scholar, reflected on shared Asian civilizational heritage preserved in Sanskrit and Pali texts. He noted that “Classical traditions illuminate the deeper unity of cultures across Asia and reaffirm Dharma as a universal ethical principle.”
Vice Chancellor Professor Sachin Chaturvedi delivered the Presidential Address, offering a visionary perspective on ethics and global well-being. He stated, “Our task is to nurture a global community of thinkers rooted in compassion, interdependence, and timeless wisdom- so that peace, nonviolence, and contentment may return to our collective actions.” He further emphasized that recovering values like karuṇā (compassion), interdependence, and ethical restraint is crucial in a world witnessing growing instability and discontent.
The conference hosted eminent delegates from India, Russia, Belarus, Malaysia, Nepal, Thailand, Kazakhstan, China, Ethiopia, Hungary, and Fiji, along with representatives from Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India, Indian Knowledge Systems Division, Ministry of Education, International academic institutions and ISKCON, Gita Ashram, Sanskrit universities, and cultural organizations
Four plenary sessions explored Dharma in relation to Culture, Philosophy, Economics, and Environment. A public session on Lokasaṃgraha and Contemporary World highlighted ethical leadership and global responsibility.
The International Conference on Dharma and Global Ethics at Nalanda University culminated in a strong reaffirmation of the commitment to fostering global dialogue on ethics, sustainability, and civilizational wisdom. Gathering distinguished scholars, practitioners, and thought leaders from around the world, the event highlighted the enduring significance of the Bhāratīya Śāstra Paramparā in addressing modern-day challenges and shaping a compassionate, balanced, and responsible global order. The conference concluded with university students' commemorations marking the 150th anniversary of the national song, Vande Mataram.
