KHABRE TV : 9334598481 : desk news : Prof. Sunaina Singh, an institution builder, successful education leader and visionary administrator, has completed her very successful glorious six years term as Vice Chancellor of Nalanda University on 15.05.2023.

The appellation ‘Nalanda University’ is magical— an aide-mémoire of the illustrious glory of ancient India as Vishwa-guru, as well as an icon that evokes the expectation to achieve an ideal yet again in a globalized world today.






Within past six years of dedicated service and relentless effort of Prof. Singh, Nalanda University has re-emerged like the proverbial phoenix, to re-create its past glory in its new avatar. The institution has recorded an unprecedented growth graph under its dynamic and compelling leadership.

What stood for centuries as a beacon of knowledge and hope that attracted scholars from all over the world, is revived and reinvented after a millennium and has now embarked on a journey seeking new heights, determined to act as a knowledge hub furthering intra-Asia interaction as a university of future. The consortium of centres of academic excellence have been networked recently with Nalanda as the nodal institution for AINU exchanges.  






With the active support of MEA, the dream of envisioning Nalanda has become a reality today. The University's trajectory with its vision to be universalist in its outlook as per the motto `ano bhadraah kratavo yantu vishvatah', opens the doors of noble thoughts and practices from across the globe while responding to its emerging needs. The hallmark of this 'Sui Generis' Nalanda is its extraordinary mandate of promotion of Regional Peace and Cooperation towards a spirituality that unites all. Prof. Sunaina Singh has therefore, envisioned and executed a community of borderless learning. You will be happy to note that Nalanda University despite being a young institution is home to scholars from over 30 nationalities at present enriching its diversity and pluralism on campus.






In last six years, the University has progressed from 2(Two) Schools to 6 (Six) Schools and from 2 programmes to over 25 programmes. The interdisciplinary niche courses with critical thinking, the cafeteria model, with digital data credit bank, exit options including an innovative sustainable management course with diploma are some of the key features in the pedagogical structures building knowledge pathways for the knowledge leaders of the future. During 2022-23 the total number of student enrolment was around 1000 in both the regular and short programmes with around 76% of international students in regular programmes. 

Creation of an exemplary Net Zero green Campus with minimum carbon footprints, with ideal energy and water resources and waste management, is a laudable contribution in keeping with Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision for . An almost complete Net-Zero Sustainable green campus with 200 odd buildings/structures has been created with state-of-the-art technologies that are carbon neutral and zero waste with some key sustainability features like, 5 Mega Watt Solar PV Captive Farm under the CPSU Viability Gap Funding; Use of Compressed Stabilized Earth Blocks (CSEB); creation of more than 40 hectares of water bodies and water management systems with indigenous 'Ahar-Pyne' method; Desiccant Evaporative (DEVAP) technology for cooling/heating of the buildings; Decentralized Waste Treatment (DeWAT) systems; Use of thick cavity walls to increase thermal resistance; Biogas operated Combined Heat & Power (CHP) engine etc., 12.5 kilometres of internal road network, site development works has come up within last 5 years despite COVID-19 pandemic impediments. 






It is matter of pride that the Nalanda University brought back students to live on its new campus after nearly 1000 years in August 2022 and it is a milestone during the Amrit Kaal towards rebuilding Nalanda in its new avatar, a place what used to be known as a ‘Vishwa Guru’ in ancient times.






Prof. Abhay Kumar Singh, Dean, School of Historical Studies, Nalanda University, assumed the charges as interim Vice Chancellor, Nalanda University, upon successful completion of the term of Madam Vice Chancellor Professor Sunaina Singh on May 15, 2023. Professor Sunaina Singh, wished him well in leading Nalanda forward. He will be the interim VC until the appointment of a regular VC.
