International Awards to Nalanda University Recognizing the Leadership
KHABRE TV - 9334598481 - Aditya's Report- Over past few years, Nalanda University is marching ahead with novel achievements and new recognitions adorning this new avatar of the earlier ancient institution of knowledge and wisdom. The astute leadership of an “academic institution builder” Vice Chancellor Prof. Sunaina Singh in promoting academic innovations and her constructive genius in envisioning a carbon-free campus, is extolled with the two global awards bestowed by expert international organizations, recently, in the US and UK.
The 17th Edition of the Asia-Europe Business and Social Forum Summit held in London in April 2022, decorated VC Prof. Sunaina Singh with the prestigious “Global Leader of the Year, 2021-22” award for her contributions and service to academic sphere. VC Prof. Singh is the only woman educationist from India to receive this honour in the field of education this year. The forum honours foremost innovators in the different fields at the global platform.
Since 2017 at Nalanda University, VC Prof. Singh successfully overcame the challenging issues of creating the university on the academic and infrastructural fronts; and thus, built up the campus with facilities from a scratch and innovated academic courses to match the global standards. 6 Schools of study and 3 Centres with specialized focuses are founded, offering full-time Masters, Global PhD, and Short-term programmes. Cafeteria model and inter-disciplinary courses have been innovated under the guidance of the VC, that serve the interests of the international student community to carve their niche expertise, as also expand the dimensions of their inter-disciplinary education. The ethos of Nalanda and the cultural traditions and values from ancient Indian wisdom have been blended with the existent and emerging disciplines with the aim at creating knowledge leaders of the future society. According to VC Prof Singh, “Nalanda today is to serve as a ‘bridge and foundation’ in linking the world through the knowledge route.”
During these years of crisis, Nalanda University was functional, unabated by the Covid pandemic, and the academic sessions and infrastructural constructions progressed per schedule. Over the last year, activities like the regular Distinguished Lectures, International Conferences and workshops have resumed. The “Dharma-Dhamma Conference-2021” was an international event hosted by the Nalanda University and witnessed the participation of high dignitaries like the Vice President, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, MoS Mrs. Meenakshi Lekhi, Governor Shri Phalgu Chauhan, CM Shri Nitish Kumar to name a few. Another event was MoS Dr. Rajeev Ranjan Singh’s visit to the Campus. Foreign envoys also visited.
The Indo American Green University Network in USA awarded the “Leadership for Net Zero Endeavour Award-2022” to VC Prof. Sunaina Singh, in a function held at Bronx Community College, City University of New York, US. The appreciation is for the creation of an exemplary Net Zero and carbon-footprint-free green campus, that has the ideal energy and water resources management. This campus is five-star ranked and awarded by the GHRIHA Council too. This campus is an exemplary creation to be hailed as no less than a marvel.
The campus is built over in about past 4 years—from a negligible 0.2% to above 90% completion stage, covers about 455 acres of land space that has been turned into one of the largest green campuses, where 200 structures, including 40 water bodies fed with indigenous water harvesting method, state of art DEVAP air conditioning, compressed unburnt brick constructions of aesthetically appealing architecture are remarkable. At the same time, world-class classrooms with the best electronic facilities and academic blocks are the pride of the campus.
International Scholarships are arranged to support the students. Today, students from over 32 countries are sharing the global campus at Nalanda and learning in harmony. The full commitment, determination and dedication of the leadership stands rewarded with these honours. VC Prof Singh said, “Nalanda University’s success is contributing to UNSDG goals through efforts in the impact-innovation in creating the carbon-neutral campus…These awards have commended our commitment towards developing a green and sustainable campus at Nalanda…Such awards recognize the importance of Nalanda’s resurgence.”
It is well known that VC Prof. Sunaina Singh endeavours towards setting new benchmarks in personal and public spheres. She played a dynamic role in creating innovative research clusters, reinvigorating the academic culture, streamlining the administration and bringing about transparency and accountability into the system. She has successfully drawn the attention of the West and East, towards Indian culture and literature, pedagogical systems, epistemological concerns, and educational policies.
Placing Nalanda University high on the academic map of the world and availing the institution of international recognition has been attained by the relentless dedication, pursuance and toil by the academic leader. To illustrate here, the Honorary Consul of the United Republic of Tanzania has instituted a scholarship in VC Prof. Sunaina Singh’s name, praising that her “dedication, commitment, and desire to build and develop Nalanda University is unparalleled and remarkable.”
