Khabre tv : Rajgir, 15th September 2024; Nalanda University, Rajgir, in collaboration with Synergia Foundation, Bengaluru, hosted an international conference on September 13-14th, 2024 at its Nalanda Campus. The event, aimed at exploring the future of shared prosperity and security, gathered experts, thought leaders, and key representatives from BIMSTEC nations including India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Singapore, and Taiwan.
A keynote address by Ambassador Pankaj Saran, National Security Advisory Board Member, government of India set the tone for the event. Ambassador Saran underscored the complex security dynamics confronting BIMSTEC nations, stressing the importance of cooperative frameworks to tackle transnational threats such as cross-border terrorism, cyber-attacks, and regional instability. He called for a proactive approach from regional leaders, blending strategic foresight with a shared commitment to peace, stability, and development.
Prof. Abhay Kumar Singh, Interim Vice-Chancellor of Nalanda University, delivered a notable inaugural address. Referencing the ancient ethos of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (the world is one family), Prof. Singh emphasized the interconnectedness of BIMSTEC nations. He highlighted three key areas for future cooperation, first, the role of cultural and educational initiatives in fostering mutual respect; second, the importance of ethical conduct (Dharma) in ensuring good governance; and third, the necessity of sustainable living in harmony with nature, aligning with Nalanda University's vision. He stressed that peace cannot be imposed but must be nurtured through hope, security, and mutual understanding. "Through interdisciplinary research and innovation," he stated, "Nalanda is poised to transform academic findings into practical solutions for our region's pressing challenges."
Synergia Foundation President Tobby Simon also shared valuable insights into regional cooperation and provided strategic recommendations for addressing common challenges.
The event concluded with two dynamic panel discussions: "Promoting Peace, Non-Violence, and Democratic Values in Societies" and "Sustainable and Inclusive Regional Development through Economic Integration." The engaging deliberations and enthusiastic participation from Nalanda University students reinforced the collaborative spirit of the conference. This initiative is set to be a crucial platform for fostering regional dialogue and cooperation, with Nalanda University reaffirming its commitment to addressing regional challenges through shared knowledge and experience.
