Honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Sunaina Singh inaugurated the program yesterday (June 1) by planting a tree. Addressing the inaugural function, Prof. Sunaina Singh said, “Nalanda University is one of the few leading higher education institutions in the world where the vision of a net-zero campus is being realized. Ecological balance is at the core of our existence. Effective innovation Through experiments, we strive to make the university campus a carbon-neutral zone. The Net-Zero campus of Nalanda is evolving into a role model to be emulated by other institutions."
A symposium session was organized after the inaugural remarks of the Vice Chancellor. Students, teachers and other staff of the University actively participated in this discussion session. The participants of the discussion session expressed their commitment towards keeping the university campus clean and adopting a balanced lifestyle.
As part of this week-long festival, campus visits are also organized for the participants, under which they will be given information about solar-powered plants and some audio-visual presentations related to Net-Zero. A tree plantation drive and an eco-focused photography competition have also been organized in the campus for the participants. Through these events, awareness will be created among the students and participants about the Net-Zero initiative of the University.
It is worth mentioning that recently, in a function organized by Indo American Green University Network, New York in America, Vice Chancellor Prof. Sunaina Singh with "Leadership for Net-Zero Endeavor Award". District Green Champion Award and GHRIHA Council has given top priority to develop the university campus as a green campus.
Nalanda University is one of the few leading higher education institutions to realize the vision of an effective water and energy management system, biodiversity conservation and a net-zero campus. Spread over 455 acres of land, the university is one of the largest green campuses in the world with over 200 architectural structures and 40 water bodies that are operated by indigenous water harvesting methods. Under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof Sunaina Singh, the vision of the new construction of Nalanda is being realized. The University is being developed into a vibrant green campus model with the University being made a carbon neutral campus.
