Alok Azad, divisional co-convenor of Bihar Secondary Teachers Association, while addressing a webinar organized on the future of the library in Corona crisis by Googles Meet on National Librarians' Day and Birthday of the father of library science, SR Ranganathan said today In India, Ranganathan Sahab, who is called the father of the Indian library, observed that the birth anniversary is celebrated as National Library Day.


He said that education has always been a basic need of man. Never can a person's personality develop in the absence of education or simply say that it cannot be imagined. Education affects every area of ​​the individual and the library's contribution to it has always been incomparable. The library not only contributes to educating the people, but it also serves to preserve our civilization, culture and tradition heritage. The concept of a library in India is undoubtedly a tradition, but in the current Corona era it is losing its true image, today there is a need to save it.

Alok said that states like Bihar where the Library Act has been passed in 2008, but it is limited to papers only. For almost 10 years, the process of regular appointment in this area has been closed due to the apathy of the government, due to which thousands of library science students of Bihar have got a feeling of disappointment which is not a good sign for the future of students and teacher system. It is not taking any concrete decision in this direction, only assurances are being given that a decision will be taken in this direction, but till when it is not certain, how long it will continue to happen, how long will the government play with the future of the students. Is a big question.

He said that the Corona crisis has shaken libraries. Due to social distancing, the study process has almost come to a standstill in all the famous libraries of the world including schools, colleges and universities. Online and state-of-the-art information technology is being used. Except for traditional library management, options are now being explored.

He reminded the Chief Minister, according to his earlier announcement, that the establishment of libraries in every panchayat with all primary to colleges and universities of Bihar, in the interest of youth and students, all the libraries of Bihar were converted into e-libraries. He has demanded appointment of Librarians soon so that children in Corona crisis can be provided good education and books of all subjects through e-library.
